The Person of Christ, the Work of Christ, the offices of Christ, can never be separated from the word of Christ. But how does one take advantage of the benefits of Christ, His Person, His Work? How does one benefit from the various offices He fills? We don’t have the ability to physically go and visit Him. We can’t today do that which the disciples, who became the apostles, did . . . we can’t physically sit at His feet. Stated another way . . . how can the believer be built up? How does the one who believes upon Jesus as Savior, and submits to Him as Lord, grow? How do the upper floors of the house of the Christian get built up beyond the foundation? Can there be any other way than by and through His completed word, as the Spirit uses it? Through the use of the 66 books of His completed special revelation? Isn't this the way to maturity, or to press on to "perfection"? In this passage we will see the perilous slough of becoming dull of hearing, alongside the good work of pressing on toward maturity by the Spirit. |
