There is a war raging in the church and in this nation. Many call it a culture war, but in reality it is a religious or spiritual war between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan (Ephesians 6:12). This war is not new. The actors may change from age to age and the way in which the dogma and the policies are described may change, but nothing is new under the sun. This battle began in this world back in the Garden of Eden when Satan tempted Eve saying, “Hath God said” (Genesis 3:1)—arousing doubts, then rebellion against God's Word. Ever since, it has been the goal of Satan to destroy the institutions God has established for His glory and for the good of His people (the family, the church, and the state). This battle is now as intense as it has ever been as we observe the world's attempt (and churches in name joining together) to redefine God (denying the absolute Triune God—claiming man is god); to redefine truth (denying the unchangeable Moral Law—claiming everyone has his/her own truth or “lived experience”); to redefine gender (denying God's creation—asserting one is whoever he/she identifies oneself to be); to redefine marriage (denying God established marriage between one man and one woman—glorifying same sex “marriage”); and to redefine freedom (denying that freedom is doing God's will—rather than doing our will). Throughout this series of sermons, we will see the contrast and conflict between Christ's kingdom and Satan's kingdom. The main points today are: (1) An Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount; (2) The King Takes His Seat to Preach (Matthew 5:1-2).
