Discipleship is about knowing Christ. In our age of subjectivity, knowing Jesus is often considered a matter of personal experience. However, one cannot truly know Jesus apart from His Word. His disciples spent three years with Jesus and yet did not know Him as the Promised Messiah of prophetic promise. As the events of Luke 24 indicate, Jesus' death caused His disciples to doubt that He was the Christ. Their knowledge of Jesus did not change until the risen Christ opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. If we know Jesus, we know Him by His Word.
