INTRO TO CHAPTER 3: We are now ready to begin looking at Ephesians 3. This chapter begins in a most interesting way. As I interpret Ephesians 2 and 3, in Ephesians 2:1, Paul digresses from sharing with the Ephesians regarding his prayers for them. I think that chapter 2 begins in the middle of a sentence. As I have mentioned, I think the correct translation of the first words of 2:1 are ‘even you’. When he begins the chapter with the words, ‘even you’, his mind has turned to the subject of the Gentiles salvation and that is what he takes up in chapter 2. He is reminded of the huge thing the Lord accomplished in filling all in all, and that He even fills the Gentiles. And so he takes time to explain it to them.
When he finishes that thought, in chapter three, he wants to pick up where he left off in sharing his prayers for the Ephesians. But when he does so now he is reminded of another matter related to the Gentiles, and he makes a second digression and explains another very important subject. So look at 3:1 and 2, and note the break of thought between the two verses
