In the text today, we are introduced to some scribes who have travelled from Jerusalem to Capernaum to check this man out. When they find Jesus, there is a crowd who has gathered around him again. Although Jesus has said He is the Son of Man and had power and authority to forgive sins, had power to heal all types of physical illnesses, and had power over Satan, the ruler of darkness, by casting out demons, many did not understand His true identity. When you think of it, He is God, because who else can forgive sins (2:7). He is God, because who else can heal physical ailments like Jesus, the Great Physician. He is God, because who else has power over the evil one. He is the God-man—the world’s Strongest Man. Some believed in Him to be the long-awaited Messiah. Still others, like today, have many different opinions about Jesus. Is Jesus and His followers out of their minds? Is Jesus and His followers evil and followers of the devil? This would make Christ and Christians the most deceived and deceptive group in the world. Some know Jesus to be the Son of God and Strongest Man who ever lived. The title of today’s message will be taken from verse 27. Our thought this morning is “Jesus, the Strongest Man.” Let’s us consider the following from this passage 1) Some thought Jesus was crazy 2) Some thought Jesus was the Devil 3) Some know Jesus to be the Strongest Man who came to rescue the weak, enslaved, and broken. Like Samson who destroyed His enemies in His death, Jesus would prove Himself stronger and declare, “All power is given unto me in heaven and on earth.” Samson didn't rise from the rubble of the temple of the Philistines, but Jesus rose from the dead
