This is a continuation of recording the land so that the remaining tribes might receive their allotted land in Canaan. Israel had become slack to survey the land and so Joshua gives them a kind of nudge in the right direction. The chapter ends with Israel giving to Joshua a city as well. Now, this section of reading in the book of Joshua is on a level with, say, reading the genealogy chapters. But these are necessary and should prove to be helpful as we come into the book of Judges.
