Aim: To be diligent, joyful, and faithful in our church duties.
Doctrine: Our church duties dignify our souls, as we do them out of love for Christ. They may seem to be small in the eyes of the world, but they are highly significant to God.
Exegesis: Some sweet characteristics of church duties: they may take the form of divine callings (v. 44), they may be manifest in joyful obligations (vv. 45-46), and they afford the whole parish unique privileges (v. 47).
Further application: Why we need to persevere in our church duties: because they reveal the sincerity of our faith in Christ, and their discharge pleases and glorifies God.
Key verse: v. 45 ''Both the singers and the gatekeepers kept the charge of their God and the charge of the purification, according to the command of David and Solomon his son.''
