Isaiah 47 foretells the sudden destruction of the Neo-Babylonian Empire because of the excessive treatment of captive Judah.
The first part describes the utter humiliation of the once proud and dominant force in the region. The kingdom would be brought down and ruined suddenly (v. 11; See Daniel 5:30, 31).
The second part of the chapter deals with the vain efforts of the Chaldeans to manipulate with spell and incantations the spiritual forces supporting the kingdom. The Lord declares that He would break out upon them as a consuming fire. There would be no one to save them.
