Now it seems like only yesterday to me that we were in Germany during World War Two. Everyday the mailman would call out the name of those infantry soldiers who had a letter. Each man would run up to him to get his letter from the states. Sometimes it was a letter from father, mother, relatives, or a girl friend back home. Some were married and looked for that precious letter from his wife he was longing to see so far away. Many times it was me saying, “No letter today.”

I know we all love our men and women who are serving in the armed forces of our great America. I know you appreciate them and the old Red, White, and Blue, but I wonder if we demonstrate our love for country, God, and the armed forces as we could and should.

Service men still enjoy real letters I’m sure, or an E-mail, phone call, card, or just anything you can send. To send a box of candy, or a few dollars in a letter would brighten their day more than you’ll ever know.

Many of these folks face real danger every day. Rivers of blood have been shed to preserve this freedom that we too often take for granted. Our prayers for them are important every day. Paul said in First Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.”

Every once in a while I hear someone say to a service man or woman, “Thank you for risking your life for me. Thank you for leaving your precious family to go to a far away country to face danger for us.” We need to give thanks more often. Say thanks to some policemen who faces danger daily for you. Lord please give us an attitude of gratitude today. May we thank God for letting us be born in the greatest nation one earth.
