Perhaps Job felt very lonesome when no human being stood with him during all those tragic hours and days of trouble. Surely the natural thing for him would have been to feel alone, perhaps even forsaken by everyone. But Job exercised his faith and said in Job 13:15, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.” Job would stay faithful no matter what happened.

Can you imagine having all the losses Job suffered all in a very short period of time? Job lost all of his property, house, land, cattle, sheep, and all his herds. He lost his health, wealth, children, and almost lost his life. Even his wife said, “Curse God and die?” (Job 2:9). But Job said no, I won’t curse him, I’ll believe in him. I’ll trust him in the sunshine or in the rain, in profit, or in gain. I’ll just trust him.

This man Job had to lose a lot. He preached ten funerals at one time, and for all practical purposes he had lost his wife and nearly his own life. Sitting on that lonely ash heap he suffered and scratched more than we could ever imagine. But he still trusted God.

His so called spiritual friends came around with all kind of spiritual advice but it was flawed and inaccurate. Job had been true to God and little could they have ever understood that Job would come out of this richer than he had ever been!
