In the book of First Samuel we read of David, the young lad, facing the Goliath of his time. The giant Goliath had King Saul and all the army of Israel in their fox holes halted, and afraid to move forward. David, being filled with the Spirit of God had no fear. In First Samuel 17:32, little David said to King Saul, “Let no men’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” He went; he won and returned to Saul after his victory. Being God directed and led by the Almighty, he won a battle that all Israel could not win. Little is much when God is in it.

Every generation has its Goliath, or giants, to face and fight. In every life there are storms we must encounter. Satan has different tactics for different people, but we always have to face him in some way, shape, or form. Sometimes he comes to us as a roaring lion, and at other times he comes as a very beautiful form. But he is the devil just the same. He wants to prevent the lost one from being saved, and the saved one from growing in grace and knowledge. He is earth’s greatest deceiver and liar, the father of all lies.

Satan invents new traps for our young and old every day. Some of these traps are hard to overcome. Smoking and chewing tobacco is a giant for some to face, but we can quit with God’s help. Alcoholic beverages are very addictive and they become a giant to face if we overcome them. But you can with God helping you. Why, oh why, have we made something like this legal in our country, I’ll never know! Was it love for money? Alcohol drinks cause hundreds to get killed every year. More people die from it than from mad dog bites. But we kill the mad dog! Why don’t we kill the whiskey and beer, and all the other intoxicating beverages? Thousands of women and children go hungry because of this.

Unfaithfulness in marriage is a giant our people need to be saved from. Stealing, or not giving out tithes and offerings is a giant sin for born again believers. Killing is a giant that never should even enter our thinking. Sometimes we murder a man’s reputation and good name by our gossiping tongues.
