Back home in the country we raised a few chickens to have one to eat now and then. To subsidize our almost nonexistent income, we sold a few eggs.

You know how hard a hen works to have a few baby chicks once in a while. She sets on those eggs three solid weeks to hatch those precious chicks.

Mother hen teaches those babies many things about life and the problems it presents. For instance, she clucks and the chicks learn to follow her. When she scratches up a worm she says cluck, cluck, cluck in a happy tone and all the chickens rush up for lunch. When a black cloud appears in the sky, she makes a certain distressful sound for her chicks. When the shadow of a hawk comes over, she gives the distressful sound and all chicks run under her wings for safety. After all, hawks kill biddies you know! She has a time to go to roost call also, when the time rolls around. She speaks their language and they follow her.

One day I saw a hawk fly down to get our hen’s biddies and combat began between the hen and the hawk. After a long furious battle, the hawk beat a hasty retreat back into the sky. Mother hen had obeyed God and fought victoriously for her little ones. So should human beings.

We humans have a battle to fight against sin in America. Sin is our greatest enemy and Satan wants to get your kids too. Smutty face is getting many American boys and girls because they did not have a (mother hen) Christian mother and father to protect them from the hawk of sin. Satan, the hawk of hell, is flying low; looking for chicks right now. I mean you and your kids.

After God’s people at Jerusalem had rejected our Lord and Savior, here are the words he had to say, Matthew 23:37-38, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.”
