PLUNGED BENEATH THAT FLOOD
“There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins; and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.” These words from the hymn written by William Cowper express one of the most amazing truths in the Bible to describe God’s grace in our salvation by the Lord Jesus Christ. All our sins and our guilt were totally and finally removed from us, as far as East is from West, by the blood of Immanuel, God with us. God’s law and justice were perfectly satisfied for us, and we have no sin charged to our account because it was charged to Christ. His death for us plunged us beneath that flood of His precious blood so that we are washed clean from all guilt in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, having been plunged beneath that flood, we cannot be condemned, and we cannot be deprived of any of the blessings of God’s grace in Christ.

There is an Advocate and Intercessor always waiting to present the prayers of those who come to God through Him. That Advocate is the Lord Jesus Christ. He mingles our prayers with the incense of His own almighty intercession. Our prayers, as poor as they are in themselves, are mighty and powerful in the hands of our High Priest and Elder Brother. The bank note without a signature at the bottom is nothing but a worthless piece of paper. The stroke of the pen gives it all its value. The prayer of a poor child of Adam is a poor and feeble thing in itself; but once endorsed by the hand of the Lord Jesus, it availeth much. – Scott Richardson

The grace of God influences both the understanding and the affections. Warm affections, without knowledge, can rise no higher than superstition: and that knowledge which does not influence the heart and affections, will only make a hypocrite. – John Newton
As Christ’s righteousness is the only merit that can exalt us to the presence and kingdom of God; so that doctrine alone is to be considered as evangelical which depresses the righteousness of man and exalts the righteousness of Christ: leading us to trust, not on what we do, but singly on what He has done for us. The business of the Law is to knock us down from the pedestal of self-confidence, and grind us small; as Moses ground to powder, and dispersed the materials of the Israelitish idol. The business of Grace is to lift us from the dust, settle us upon Christ the rock of ages, put a new song of free salvation into our mouths. – Augustus Toplady

DO NOT PRETEND
It is the conscious absence of all goodness that leads us to Christ, the fountain of all goodness; and that fountain is open to all who come in this fashion. It is closed against all who come on any other footing. It is the want of light and life that draws us to Christ, the source of both; and both of these are the gifts of God. He who comes as partly righteous is sent away empty. He who comes acknowledging unrighteousness but at the same time trying to neutralize it or to expiate it by feelings, works, or tears is equally rejected. But he who comes as an unrighteous man to a righteous and gracious Savior, finds not only ready access, but plenteous redemption. The righteous God receives unrighteous man if that man presents himself in his own true character as a sinner, and does not mock God by pretending to be something less or better than he is. – Horatius Bonar

THE TRUTH OF GOD
Winston Churchill said, “Truth is incontrovertible. Panic may resent it,
ignorance may deride it, and malice may distort it, but there it is.” Let me use similar words with respect to THE TRUTH OF GOD. The gospel is irrefutable! Man’s pride may resent it, his ignorance may reject it, and his wisdom may despise it, but there it is. “The word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you” (1 Peter 1:25). – Pastor Jim Byrd
