A Letter About the Status of the FIC Movement

I received this in a letter from Jason Young, pastor of Heritage Baptist in Phoenix:

The FIC movement is at a point where every healthy church is seriously considering how we fulfill the Great Commission. This is happening in churches all around the nation. This is significant because so many outside the FIC movement have criticized FIC churches for not being involved in the Great Commission.

We knew this was not true. It has always been about the gospel and the Great Commission for the glory of God alone. We just do not use all the standard programs that most churches in our day use. The answer for how the FIC engages in evangelism has always been very simple and biblical. We simply share the gospel and seek to demonstrate the gospel in all that we do. When the gospel actually is believed and practiced in households and is proclaimed and lived out in the church, you have a powerful witness to the gospel. A biblical FIC cannot help but fulfill the Great Commission. It is our mission.

Over the past 9 years, I have been blessed to plant and pastor Heritage Baptist in Phoenix. I have seen it grow from a new church excited to be a FIC to being a FIC that is excited about preaching Christ and making disciples. I believe the first step prepared the way for the second. We had to look inward and repent of all our unbiblical practices before we could have a better vision of the harvest that is all around us. This does not mean we stop repenting; rather it means that our repentance is bearing fruit. It has always been about the gospel. But it is hard to make disciples when your life is a mess because you are so confused about the gospel and how it relates to church and family life.

A healthy FIC is in the best place to preach Christ and make disciples when it has built everything on the gospel from the ground up! Healthy, God-honoring families are so needed to fulfill the Great Commission. Now, many of the families in our assembly cannot wait to share Christ. Last week we had a group of about 25 who were out preaching Christ on the streets. Fathers, sons, and daughters together were giving a unified witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the air the FIC seeks to cultivate for the glory of God. The impact for the gospel is powerful. I am so very excited for the White Unto Harvest Conference. I believe the timing for this conference and its theme are perfect.

I wanted to write and share that with you to encourage you in your work for the Lord.
