A Brief Exposition of Romans (Paul’s Doctrine Of Sanctification)

Beloved,

In light of the fact that Paul has taken time to illustrate God’s divine activity in the lives of His people, it comes quickly to the forefront that this very same activity places the child of God at odds with the rest of the world. This truth should in no way trouble the regenerate believer for Paul asserts that if God is for His people, there are none who can be against them. This does not in any way mean that there will not be trouble in this temporal life but that whatever trouble the believer may experience, it pales in comparison to the glories of God that are to be revealed in His children at the end of the age.
Paul basis his premise on the fact that if God did not spare His only Son, an event that would be considered cataclysmic by any standard, and that giving was intended to bring about the restoration of His people; why would God withhold anything short of this ultimate expression of His love? Firmly anchored to this divine mooring, Paul unequivocally declares that absolutely nothing can or may separate God’s children from His love. Nothing within this temporal frame or the eternity to come will overpower the love God as shown in the cross of Christ. Though the believer may in fact experience trials and persecution, even the death of the physical body, there is a divine power greater than all that will preserve the believer though out all eternity.
With the conclusion of Paul’s teachings on the believer’s growing in Christ through progressive sanctification, the Apostle now turns his attention to a body of teachings that is at best minimized and at worst ignored in many evangelical communities; God’s sovereignty.
