The rabbinical system is not the right pattern for the church. The rabinnical schools, Paul's instruction under Gamaliel, and various other forms of worship, celebration, and instruction that the Jews practiced do not define the normative practice of the Church of Jesus Christ. Scripture alone is the pattern. The Pharisees were doing many things contrary to Scripture regarding worship, the family (Corban) as well as many outward forms of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (Matt. 6). Instead of following the pattern of the rabbincal school system, which has no warrant in Scripture, we should agree with Jesus regarding the patterns of the Jews during the time of Jesus, "...In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men" (Matt. 15:9). Jesus turned over the tables in the temple – not legitimizing this activity of the Jewish people. We find ourselves on dangerous ground when we adopt the practices of the Pharisees without careful consideration. Further, we may find that heroes of the faith also practiced these methods of the discipleship of youth throughout history. They also are not our pattern. Sola Scriptura.
