Why Is Expository Preaching a Central Message of the NCFIC?
FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2012

First, we believe preaching has everything to do with the family, because the biblical pattern is that families hear the Word of God together in an age-integrated setting during the meetings of the church. And it is critical that both children and parents get a steady diet of faithful preaching that reflects the messages of the texts of Scripture. In this way, family life is built, solidified, and beautified by the preaching of the Word of God. This is one great indispensible connection between the church and the family. As the family is enriched by the Word of God, she in turn is more capable of blessing the local church.

Second, many “family-integrated churches” have been planted and built over the last several years and all of them are in danger – just like every other local church. I believe that their greatest need is to cleave to the Word of God for all matters of life and godliness. If they do not have a disciplined practice to preach the Word of God sequentially and systematically, I believe that these churches will be left dry and empty and subject to the whims and bents of whatever tradition the people might have appreciated in the past or whomever might be the strongest personality. Instituting the practice of expository preaching establishes the consistent voice of God in the church and helps to make Him the true Head of the church.

Third, there is a famine in the land, but it is not a famine of food for the body. It is a famine of food for the soul – the Word of God. Many modern churches are distracted from the Word of God as they spend most of their time presenting a mix of entertainment, aggressive programming, secular wisdom, and worldly psychological gobbledygook. Now is the time for church leaders to re-establish the centrality of the Word of God and return to this practice of expository preaching so that in the coming generations there will be a people who know the Lord.
