2011 St. Vincent Mission Trip Re-Cap

I recently had the privilege to lead SRBC’s mission trip to the island nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where we were hosted by missionaries Alan and Beth Hill. The trip was primarily construction-oriented. Our goal was to handle a number of repairs and improvements on the buildings belonging to the Baptist Bible College of the Caribbean. However, at SRBC, we seek not merely to get missions done through the church, but to get the church done through missions. In other words, we want God’s people to grow in the Gospel as they serve abroad. With this in mind, I want to mention a few of the ways the Lord used the St. Vincent trip to grow me.

First, it provided me a very clear understanding of the physical and spiritual needs of St. Vincent. It gave me a much better grasp of where our missionaries serve – the challenges they face, as well as the blessing of God on their ministry. All of this information has made my prayer times much richer.

Second, the St. Vincent trip allowed me the opportunity to get to know some of the members at SRBC better. In a church of 600 people it can be difficult to know everyone well. An opportunity to spend significant time with members of our assembly does much to promote unity in the body.

Third, anytime I travel abroad, I walk away with a much bigger picture of Christianity. Mission trips cause me to realize that the kingdom of God is bigger than Christianity in Greenville, South Carolina, or even Christianity in America. It reminds me that God is doing a work of redemption in which He is bringing people of every nation to Himself.

Revelation 7:9-10 “9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,10 and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
