THE SCAPE GOAT
Leviticus 16: 8, 21, 22
On the Day of Atonement all eyes were on the high priest in hopes that God would accept them through him and the offerings he made. Sinner that is what you need for God to do for you. Scripture does not speak of the sinner accepting God but of God accepting the sinner. If God accepts a sinner it is because in his Son he fulfilled all that he required so that he can accept us in a holy manner. God makes his regenerated children to behold all the work is finished so that he empties our hands to receive Christ as a free gift. The slain goat and the scape goat represent the one offering of Christ whereby he did all that God requires. Today we look at the scape goat.
Imputation (Leviticus 16: 21)
The sin of God's elect people was imputed to Christ (Isaiah 53:4-6; 2 Corinthians 5:21.) God made Christ to be sin for his people just as the high priest put all their transgressions in all their sins upon the head of the goat. As the High Priest confessed over the goat all the iniquities of the children of Israel, putting their sin upon the head of the goat, so Christ was willingly made sin for his people, confessing their sin all to be his before God (Psalm 40: 12.)
Gone (Leviticus 16: 22.)
Christ Jesus completely bore away all the sin of his people (Hebrews 9: 28.) Those whom God regenerates and calls by his grace receive this wonderful, amazing good news. The guilt of our sin is gone (Hebrews 10: 14.) The punishment for our sin is gone (Romans 8: 1.) And God will remember our sin no more (Jeremiah 50:20; Psalms 103:12; Hebrews 10: 15-17.) Christ Jesus is the scape goat of his people who finished this work on our behalf. God shall freely give each one whom Christ redeemed faith to believe and rest in Christ. May he be pleased to do so for you today!
THE PLAN TODAY
Psalm 50:21
Pastor Scott Richardson
The plan today is to make the church as much like the world as possible, so that unregenerate people will not feel uncomfortable and will be attracted to its ministry! Turn the church into a theater; worship into a musical display; ministers into actors and clowns to amuse and entertain; sermons into political, patriotic or philosophical essays; and the living God into a good buddy whose attributes are adjustable to any culture or creed. This will attract the flesh and successfully quench the Spirit.
FINISHING THE RACE:
Pastor Henry Mahan
Those who are so foolish as to allow ANYTHING IN THEIR LIFE to cause them to renounce their faith in Christ and neglect their duty and privileges as children of the living God will, like Esau, someday weep with bitter tears when it is beyond their power to recover what is lost. Guard against apostasy and fleshly appetites, guard against neglecting worship and daily communion with the Lord; guard against unwholesome companions and worldly social contacts; guard against covetousness and materialism lest you come at last, to mourn bitterly your foolishness and wickedness.
We have entered A RACE. The prize goes to those who FINISH (Hebrews 10:35-39). There will be difficult times, perhaps heavy trials; and along the way there will be tempting pastures of pleasure which appeal to the flesh. We must go on! We may proceed rapidly or slowly; we may even stumble and fall; but, looking to Christ, we continue. I have a responsibility TO MY Lord and to the Gospel of His grace. Neither the smiles nor the frowns of the world will cause me to surrender what I believe. I have a responsibility to the church, my brothers, my family, and to those whose lives I touch. By His grace, I must not allow anything to cause me to quit the race nor fail to see it through.
In 55 years of pastoring and preaching, I have seen many runners in this race. Those who finish and are crowned with glory are those who CONTINUE FAITHFUL! They lay aside the weights and sins which hinder; they look neither BACK to Egypt which they have left nor AROUND at others who profess to run, but only FORWARD to Christ, their goal. They do not always maintain the same pace, for sometimes the track is smooth and sometimes it is rocky or muddy; but they are always moving in the same direction. “I will be satisfied when I awake with Thy likeness.
