The first session of the General Assembly is underway. We heard an excellent sermon by outgoing moderator Rev.Bill Shishko from 2 Corinthians 3:1-3. His four points were as follows: I. The Great Author and His Secretaries II. The Writing Materials of These Books III. The Production of These Books IV. The Readership of These Books. Brother Shishko pointed out that the Great Author is Jesus Christ himself. His secretaries are his ministers - Paul and all other ministers of the gospel. The writing materials of these books is not with ink, but by the Holy Spirit written on the tablets of men's hearts. The production is one volume composed of many individual chapters. Men are the chapters and the stories of their lives are the chapters. The readership is all men - everyone who sees their lives. Obviously this was a challenging message to all ministers present. After the worship service, the Assembly got underway by electing the Rev. Alan Pontier as the moderator for the 77th General Assembly of the OPC. Rev. Pontier is an experienced minister who presently serves as a church planter in Big Bear Lake in California. The docket is being adopted and we should wrap up business for the evening in just a few minutes. The one remarkable thing about the Assembly tonight was the singing. With a group of about 100 male commissioners, plus visitors and guests - it was stirring to hear and to join in with!
