Thought For The Week:
"Behold, God is my helper; The LORD is with those who uphold my life." Psalm 54:4
Prayer For The Church:
- Pray for Ruth and Mona as they seek employment, and as Ruth has an interview this week. Thank God for answered prayer as Pete has been offered a position.
- Pray for Elaine that the Lord will keep her and the baby in safety.
- Pray for Mark and Marilyn as they go on holiday on Tuesday.
Particularly pray that as Mark uses some of this time as "sabbatical
leave" in reading and study, that He may be richly blessed and equipped for the ministry in the days ahead.
- Pray for the ministry of Gods word to the various clubs this week.
- Pray for Paul as he leads the Bible Study at Erith on Wednesday.
• Pray for Lee that he will be able to quickly get back to work. Prayer For The Local Area:
Clapham The church correspondent writes: "January we had a commissioning service for Dominique Riley. Pray for her evangelism in Paris. Still need a musician and planning permission for the hall."
Dorking. The welcome service for Brian and Valerie Maidstone is planned for Saturday 3rd May at 4.30 pm. John Benton is the preacher. The meeting will be followed by refreshments.
Prayer For The Wider Area:
Historic missions project launched in Ireland
The Irish Mission Agencies Partnership, or iMAP, has officially been launched.
iMap is a partnership that has been growing since 2006, thanks to the efforts of SIM Ireland's Director and other mission leaders. There are 17 member agencies, which include AIM, AWM, Frontiers Ireland, Interserve Ireland, Latin Link, OMF, among others.
The goal of the coalition is to see the Gospel advanced by Irish believers. iMAP helps establish a centre for missions at home and overseas. The Web site creates a central location to present service opportunities, prayer points, regional events and mission resources. It also creates a place for mission agencies to connect with people who are interested or involved with overseas evangelistic work.
Mission partners are able to network better with iMap services as well as ensure access to biblical and practical resources to engage Irish churches in mission.
Turkish immigrants face difficult road in Germany
Turkish immigrants to Germany often face a difficult transition. They look forward to a new life but meet a limited job market and housing options that are less than enticing.
Salma was one such immigrant. She anticipated the reunion with her family in Germany and freedom for her and her son. Stepping off the train was the beginning of the transition- made more difficult by her Turkish last name.
One missionary, who will be called "Beth," is helping Turkish immigrants like Salma. The German government requires that immigrants take 600 hours of German language classes to encourage integration. It can be easy for Turkish immigrants to be isolated from and rarely interact with Germans since Turkish communities are so abundant.
Beth, who was taking classes at a community centre, helps immigrants learn German. In return, her Turkish language skills improve, and she is able to share the Bible with the students. Her goals are to build relationships with the immigrants and to increase interaction between Germans and Turkish immigrants.
Beth was able to share the Bible with a new immigrant friend this past Christmas. The woman asked Beth if she could borrow the Bible after she read a passage about Christ's birth.
Almost four percent of the German population is Muslim, and most of that is accounted for in Turkish immigrants.
