First, we can’t add anything by being anxious. Matthew 6:27 - "And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" Our anxiety leads to nothing. It is better to submit ourselves to God’s care, like Job, and know that he does right. Job 42:5-6, "I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes."" It is good to make our requests known and use all diligence, but we must never murmur and withdraw, as if God owes us something or does unjustly. (Spurgeon says the hypocrite tells God that he won’t serve him, unless he gives him what he wants.) Let us never doubt the Father’s care, after he gave his Son to die for us, and gave us everlasting life.

It is irrational to doubt God’s provision while trusting our souls to him. He cares for us, and we don’t need to fear. Luke 12:32 - ""Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Let us bring anxiety before the throne, confess its sinfulness, and trust our loving God. Let us ask him what he wants us, and do it in the full confidence of faith. Let us honor the Father by believing.

Secondly, the problem is unbelief. Matthew 6:30 - "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?" It is shameful, indeed, that we distrust God, as if he doesn’t hear us, as if Christ didn’t take away our sins, and he rules unwisely… as if he is blind or lacks wisdom. Isaiah 49:14 - "But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me."" As if there is fault in God.

True, we may suffer death. Isaiah 57:1-2 - "The righteous man perishes, and no one lays it to heart; devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from calamity; he enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness." Not every believer is delivered from trouble, but what is that, except God’s chariot to Paradise? What is that but victory over this last enemy? 1 Corinthians 15:55 - ""O grave, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?"" What is that but God giving us the best imaginable… and beyond… by our last pains on earth?

Oh, saints, we ought to trust in God! Honor him who gives salvation freely. Did you choose yourself, or did he teach you? Are you held by your own strength, or is it grace every step of the way? Do you provide for yourself, or is God the author of every good thing? James 1:17 - "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."

Trust in God. Believe his love and provision… in the hard times, though the bills stack up, and the creditor is at the door… and you don’t know your next move. Believe God, and honor him. Walk as he’s commanded, and do what he’s said. Philippians 4:6 - "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." He will do what is best in our life. He is more loving, more wise, and more generous than we can imagine. He only does good.

Thirdly, we have the promise: “all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." If we seek God’s kingdom and the righteousness of faith, devoting ourselves to him, seeking his glory, and doing his will, then he will care for us. That is his business.

A father tells his son to do his chores, homework, and he will pay for school fees, provide food and shelter, and the child needs not worry. How much more so our all supplying God? Philippians 4:19 - "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." The cattle on a thousand hills are his. If he were hungry, he would not tell us. He has wealth and power in his hands. He makes rich, and he makes poor. He owns everything.

If being a billionaire is best for us, then he will do it. Seek only to honor Christ and glorify him. He will not deny anything good to those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 - "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly."
