“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

Repentance! It’s almost a forgotten word behind the pulpits of America. There are quite a few things that are missing from the pulpits these days. Repentance is not the problem, sin is the problem and many pastors today do not want to confront people with their sin. Some pastors say “people are confronted with their sin enough in the world. They come here to receive forgiveness and healing”. Yes, but of what? Certainly not their bruised egos. Most today are being pampered from cradle to grave. Parents for the most part are being their child’s friend rather than parent. They protect them from all of the consequences of their choices while they are young. They bail them out of the trouble they get themselves into as young adults. If they are taken to Church, the pastor better not tell them they are sinners or we will take them somewhere they will get the nurture and love they deserve! When they end up in some jail or prison we wonder what happened. Or worse yet, in some Ivy League school having been rewarded for all the sin that’s been swept under the rug and they have no conscience of their guilt. Having it forgiven and forgotten is the normal outcome. They live out the rest of their lives spiritually dead and unaware of their condition. Pastor, take a stand. Be honest from the pulpit! Be the best friend you can be to your people. Tell them the truth! Hold the Bible up as a mirror in front of their faces and trust in God to do the rest!
