When Jacob's daughter Dinah went to see the daughters of the land, Genesis 34 v1, she fell into great trouble, and brought real grief to her parents and her brothers. What followed is enough to make us go silent. A mixture of unjust retribution, and yet the clear judgement of God.
I know of so many hurting parents because, despite their best efforts, and indeed their real failings, they have children who are now adult, and they are away from the Gospel althogether. I myself am among those mourning parents.
Without a doubt, Jacob and, in this case, Leah were to grieve for a very long time over the events surrounding their daughter. Indeed Dinah is never heard of again. Perhaps she was shut away for the rest of her life? Sin has its consquences. There is nothing new about children who grieve their parents through unbelief.
The audio only version of my message on the Dinah Incident is here on SermonAudio, but I have put the video up on YouTube at the above link. I believe that the video is a clearer presentation of this teaching, and I recomment it.
Let us bear one another up in prayer for our children who are away from the Lord, and let us also hope fully in God, who may yet arise in mercy still and call his wayward ones home.
