“Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down,” vs1
Our need is for a God that saves sinners and sends revival. We need God to come down! We’ve got the doctrine, but we need the Spirit and the power. We need our souls restored, so that Africa can see Christ. We need the supernatural, not to get money and miracles (for this is false fire,) but to live holy and blameless in the JOYFUL INDWELLING of the Spirit.
We need to see our own righteousness as filthy rags and trust in Him. We need to offer sin stained thanksgiving, that He accepts. Lev 7:13, “Along with his peace offering of thanksgiving he is to present an offering with cakes of leavened bread.” This is the sin-stained offering of our preaching and praise, not for acceptance, because that is impossible, but because we are accepted.
If we ever start giving and serving - because we are loved and totally complete in Him - then revival will happen! It will be the fruit of good works. It will be love based obedience, and He’ll manifest Himself [John 14:23]. Come on down, O mighty God!
Secondly, He has great and infinite power. vs1
“that the mountains might quake at your presence—”
We do not serve a puny god, subject to man’s will. We serve a God who rules the heavens and the nations of men [Dan 4:34-35]. He is not barred out, nor is He subject to His people’s power, as if He can do only what we let Him.
He made the world, and He has ALL POWER in His hands. Let us believe this God and be justified, counting Him able to do as He has promised. Rom 4:22, This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” Let us preach Him in His glory, giving honor to the God who saves sinners, so that we can worship Him in our nothingness, receiving the fullness of Christ. Let us believe in His power to save, and look to Him, instead of ourselves. Let us be children of faith in a great God and Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us rest confidently in hope. If He gives us this world’s goods, then great. So long as He gives us Himself, we are satisfied, and we’ll worship Him no matter what!
Thirdly, God is not bound by sinners.
When you did awesome things that we did not look for,
Let’s remember how it was, when He saved us. We didn’t expect the joy and the peace. Why limit Him now, as if He can’t do greater in the lives of others, and even in our own lives, giving us the THRILL OF THE GOSPEL, over and over? Why serve a tiny god, and just go through the motions? Why think the best days are gone?
Eccles 7:10, "Do not say, 'Why were the old days better than these?' For it is unwise of you to ask about this."
No, we must arouse ourselves by faith.
-
God is able, and I will trust Him.
-
God is needed, and I will call upon Him.
-
I will believe God in His great graciousness to draw near, pleading the atonement, the need of the Spirit, and the free grace of a tender God!
