“Even to your old age I will be the same,
And even to your graying years I will bear you!
I have done it, and I will carry you;
And I will bear you and I will deliver you."
We need a promise from God to get through the finish line, and this relieves us. He will carry us through.
First, we need carrying. We are too weak in ourselves, and sin is too strong. We’ve seen this by numerous failures.
Secondly, He will carry us. He has promised, and He is able. He’s not a god of no power. He is not a god who speaks and fails. If He has spoken, then it shall happen: this is an unconditional promise of all God’s elect, even everyone that is born again. You have believed in a saving God who gives eternal life, not temporary!
Thirdly, nothing shall stop Him - not our sins or the devil, not trials, hardships or adversity. He’ll never find a person too weak to be carried. It may seem as if salvation is impossible, and it is too hard to continue, but it is not impossible with God. Luke 18:27, “But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
Fourthly, the same God who begat you will carry you. Isa 46:3, “Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been upheld from the belly; who have been carried from the womb.” He always did the work: it was always Him. He gave you eternal life. He started the work; it was not us. He chose us, predestined, and He brought forth.
Fifthly, the Lord Jesus bought the grace of the Holy Spirit. John 16:7, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart,I will send Him to you.” Greater words, perhaps, have never been uttered! It was FOR US that He went to the cross, dying for our sins, and He sends the Holy Spirit to help us as the consequence. Because He put away sins, we can be holy and helped. He obeyed God, so that we can persevere in faith. The Holy Spirit now dwells in us, and He will carry us over every obstacle and fear. Every situation will prove too weak to stop God. Job keeps believing, and so do we.
Finally, the weaker we are the better, as we rely upon Christ. Remember Abraham and Sarah. When they could not, but believed God, then they could.
