Here is the challenge of the age for the true church of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are surrounded by a storm cloud of adversaries, accusers and generally oppositional non- combatants. No matter what we attest to, if it is consistent with scripture, we will be attacked. The culture is filled with a sense of freedom to attack and ridicule those who confess and seek to follow Christ. The temptation which faces us is to respond in kind. To attack, to ridicule, to belittle, to generally feel and act in a manner which declares our belief in our own superiority... all the while neglecting the simple truth that if God had not moved in grace upon us, we would be exactly like they are, if not worse. Beloved, as those who have been saved by grace, transformed by grace, made new by grace; we must be a people who live always EXTENDING grace to others in how we treat with them. Not to excuse sin, but to be careful of the people themselves. We are not called to battle with the weapons of the world, with anger and bitterness, with cutting words and unkind actions. We are called to live out our testimony of grace and to demonstrate the truth that forgiveness is a reality, one which we know and understand. Romans 2.5 tells us that the goodness of God leads us to repentance, so when we display that innate goodness, mercy, longsuffering and kindness of our God, we are agents of His Spirit in leading others to Him. As we are winsome, merciful, kind and loving even as we are uncompromising in speaking the absolute truth of God's Word; we WILL impact this corrupt and evil generation.
