All too often we are focused on what we think we deserve. Our vanity is pricked when we are not honored as we believe we ought to be honored; our pride is bruised when people don't give us the attention, or esteem that we feel have a right to demand; our selfish hearts become enraged when anyone dares to contend that our expectations are not in line with truth, but instead are mere folly and sin... all of this goes on steadily in the hearts of men and all the while, we willingly forget that Jesus Christ laid down all that He DID deserve and obediently took up what He did NOT deserve. We forget that He was worthy of all praise, but instead took on ridicule. We ignore that He, the creator of the universe, submitted Himself to the unrighteous judgment of His fallen creation, and took on the righteous wrath of God on behalf of that fallen creation. We willingly forget that He deserved to be serenaded by angel song, but instead heard the angry shouts of bloodthirsty mobs, we forget all that He did IN His love was for the sake of those He loved, for you and for me... we forget this because our comforts, our wants, our pleasures have been disrupted, ignored or otherwise hampered. We forget this, because at our core, we are the most important thing in our little tiny world. Oh beloved, I beg you in light of all that Christ deserved and forsook; I entreat you because of all that He bore for the sake of His beloved rebel children; I charge you on the strength of His love and His great grace - leave your selfish posturing and fall at His feet adoring the only One who is worth the loss of all things. Worship Him in the beauty of holiness and live out the love that He demonstrated in His stunning humility. It is only then that you will find a life worth living; it is only at His feet that you will truly know what you are, and what His love makes you.
