(1 Samuel 15:22)
“And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

God had told King Saul to kill all of the Amalekites, destroy all of their animals and possessions and to take nothing from the battle except complete victory over the enemy! Saul disobeyed God and held on to the thing he wanted. It cost him his throne, his sanity and ultimately his very life! God drew a picture of sin and rebellion in this story and others in the old testament. God’s people are to destroy every remembrance of sin, (the Amalikites, Cananites, Havites, Jebusites and skeeterbites) in our lives. Young and old, kill them all. When we disobey and make peace with our sin, we provoke the anger and invite the judgement of God into our homes, families and lives. Dropping a dollar or a million in the plate will not make up for a life of sin.
