‘Then it shall be in that day, that I will call My servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah; I will clothe him with your robe and strengthen him with your belt; I will commit your responsibility into his hand. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.” vs20-21
Those whom God exalts behave like fathers to those under their care with tenderness and love. We are not hard, cruel, and self-serving, but we are upheld by the grace of Christ. We are humble, because He casts away the proud and lifts up the humble [James 4:6]!
This is something we’re all learning: Humility is a life-long journey, but it is sweet. First, we are humbled, and then we are exalted. First, we are abased, and then we are lifted up. First, we exalt ourselves, and then He shames us, frustrates us, and shows us that we are vainly pursuing vain things… and then, He shows us the sweetness of Christ, that He lifts up the lowly and dwells with the broken in spirit.
"For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in a high and holy place,
and with the broken and lowly in spirit,
to restore the spirit of the lowly
and revive the heart of the broken.”--Isa 57:15
We love to lay prostrate BEFORE OUR GREAT GOD with nothing that we can add, do, or contribute… with no righteousness, seeking to be clothed, relying on the fullness of Christ… with no strength, relying upon the exalting power of the Spirit… with no wisdom, seeking to do God’s will, asking Him to guide us, teach us, and cause us to walk in the way! We want to be acted upon, and it is so sweet to sit this way before the all providing Christ, pouring upon us His love, His grace, and His sufficiency [John 1:16]!
Brothers, let us come down to serve people. Let us use the gifts that we’ve received wisely and for God’s glory. Let us live for Christ’s sake!
