“Bind up the testimony
and seal the law among my disciples.
“I will wait for the LORD,
who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob.
I will put my trust in Him.” vs16-17
Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Trust in Him because Scripture points to Him, and He’s the Savior of the world. He’s the reason that we overcome sin, and we can trust Him when all is dark around us.
He put away sin by the cross and satisfied judgment. He is the reason that God hears prayer. He’s a SUFFICIENT Savior for every sinner, and we need not fear. God’s Son has made good and precious promises, and they are valid forever. Everyone who trusts Him shall be saved [Rom 10:13].
“When men tell you to consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who whisper and mutter, shouldn’t a people consult their God instead? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.” vs19-20
Secondly, if they don’t speak according to the gospel, it is because they have no truth. Christ is the Light of God, and by Him we see all things. He has the answers, as One greater than Solomon. He tells us how to be saved and how to live. We are not living according to our nature or the dictates of man, but according to forgiveness and redemption. We are new creations living for Christ, totally different than before, transformed and renewed. Our personalities have been cleansed, and Christ is perfecting us in the fear of God. Paul is changed and so is Peter. We are different and now selfless people.
Let the Scriptures teach you and follow the judgment of Christ. He has wisdom to make us happy with pleasure the world cannot know, and peace that it cannot give.
“Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those in distress. In the past He humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future He will honor the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations:” vs1
Thirdly, the nations have the gospel preached unto us. God is SO GRACIOUS. He’s given us inheritance among the Jews, whom He rejected and cut off in their unfruitfulness, so that He could graft us in [Rom 11:7-22]. We inherit the kingdom because Israel’s unbelief could not stop Him. He had a purpose of mercy, and to demonstrate His kindness, He loved far off sinners [Eph 2:13]. This is sovereign grace. People reject Him, so He goes somewhere else. Nothing can stop His mercy. He created the world for this purpose, so when we’re persecuted in one place, then we go elsewhere, because that’s who’ll receive the gospel.
Let every broken hearted sinner rejoice. He’s looking for people in darkness, even those who are far off. His rejection of others does not lessen His mercy towards you.
“The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death,
a light has dawned [Christ in Scripture].
You have enlarged the nation
and increased its joy.
The people rejoice before You
as they rejoice at harvest time,
as men rejoice in dividing the plunder.” vs2-3
Finally, there is GREAT JOY in Jesus Christ. What we’re looking for is here to the satisfaction of the soul. There’s no guilt, shame, or fear of death; it is clean conscience worship of God; it is the goodness of our Creator manifested in us, as He gives the riches of the kingdom, the hidden treasure of the Spirit [Luke 16:11].
Do not fear that following Christ will lessen your joy. No, you will gain. You will lose what the world gives and grab hold of Jesus Christ, the most beautiful and wonderful, and the Chief among ten thousands [Song 5:10]. Christ is the joy of forgiveness and holiness. Faith in Him is walking with God.
