Here is the key to a life that honors God. Our hearts must be undivided toward the Lord our God. However, as a result of the fall, the bent of our nature is AWAY from God in every way. So while our hearts ARE undivided, they are undivided in their antipathy toward God. We do not love Him, we do not love His truth, we do not love His ways... what we love is us. We love our passions, our desires, our wants... we love what captures our imaginations, what inflames our lusts, what feeds our flesh. We pride ourselves in our "goodness", we like to think that we will do the right thing, that we care about something outside of self... But however we dress it up in the costume of "civility" and "respectability" it is still self-aggrandizing drivel that only desires to please self. From kings to peasants, no man is born with a bent towards God. No man chooses God. No man seeks after Him... until mercy speaks... until God moves in grace and makes the heart new. Until the God who created all things RE-creates you and makes your heart WHOLE. When that happens the whole world changes in an instant. Once God does the mighty, creative, Sovereign work of regeneration then suddenly we are able to see all the good that He has done for us; suddenly we desire to praise Him and to worship the beauty of His holiness. And what is more, we will also desire to walk in the way of truth, obeying God's commands and honoring His precepts. To know the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all righteousness, it is the beginning of all wisdom and it is the only source of understanding that leads to life everlasting. For when He makes us new, He also pays our debt against His law, our due penalty of eternal death and He delivers us from the terror of His just and holy wrath. I pray, dear child, that God unite your heart to fear His name, that He make you whole, so that you will be holy, and wholly His!!!
