“Coffee with Christ”

(2 Corinthians 12:7-9)
“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Thorns in the flesh! Paul says he was given one that he wanted God to take away. He thought it to be evil, the messenger of Satan to punch him with a fist, (buffet). What ever the demonic messenger brought to the table was meant for evil by Satan but was meant for good by God! Notice the first sentence, “Lest I be exalted above measure through the abundance of revelations”. The thorn was sent by Satan but the messenger that brought the thorn was sent by God! Evil is evil, suffering hurts, trials are uncomfortable, demonic attacks are overwhelming and cause us to cry out to God! Take it away! They cause us to realize, we need God and to not become overly self confident. Satan was unleashed in Paul’s life the same way and for the same reason he was unleashed it Job’s life. For Paul it was a preventative against pride, For Job it was for the cure of it. Pride is a killer, thorns are a blessing! Remember, all things work together for good to those who love God! Joseph said, “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good!
