“I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. 10I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
12What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. ‘Expel the wicked man from among you.’”
The new birth has to be real in our experience. No slave of sin is a child of grace.
First, the shackles must be broken. “Are you not to judge those inside?” You are a supernatural child of grace.
What happened to you is God's call, and it's irresistible. It's a call from darkness into light. He transferred you into the kingdom of His love by a power that gave you life, willingness to obey, and the Holy Spirit.
He saved you, and that's the only way into the kingdom. Everything else is false.
Secondly, we are not to say, "It doesn't really matter," but we are to cast out false doctrine and false people. “But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.”
This requires the name [the gospel] and the power [sincere belief] of Jesus [vs4]. It takes guts, and it takes gentleness and love.
We minister privately, then we take two or three, but if he won't repent, then throw him out of the church. “Expel the wicked man from among you.” Better for him to leave, than for God's spirit to abandon the assembly, because of proud indifference.
A pure church is the Lord's demand. He won't have people claim His name and live in sin, as if He's powerless or unholy. He wants the gospel undefiled, and God's people to be who we truly are, which is all out for Christ, not letting wickedness slide.
We're not people that wink at sin, but we rebuke it in the church house, not fearing man's face or frown, because God's word is more important than any human being. God's word of holiness by the grace of Christ must be believed.
Thirdly, don't think upon the unsaved the way that you do church members. “I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. 10I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world...12What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside.” Church members are holy. The unsaved are wicked!
We expect lost men to behave ungodly, so we love them IN THEIR SIN. This is Christian - to hate evil in yourself, purify your church, and go out graciously to others preaching repentance with power, because you've done the dirty work at home.
Finally, many talk about Christ but don't live for Him. What are you going to do?
