Pay careful attention to the dispensation of God's amazing grace… in no way did Lydia believe the things spoken by Paul which resulted in her eternal life UNTIL AFTER God opened her heart to do so. Period. There is no credit due to her for her faith. There is no credit due her for her choice, her will, her anything! It is the sovereign grace of a loving God that chose to make her His own. Before she was called to life by God she was just another person who did not believe, would not believe, could not believe; but in the instant that God moved in grace and opened her heart, she believed! God moved and she was saved. We often give lip service to salvation being the work of God, but then try to steal some of the glory for us, to make our work some part of it, our will some key to it, our SOMETHING a crucial and pivotal role… when we do this we usually do not recognize the inherent hypocrisy in the act, we think to somehow simply "share" in the thing, we want to say "Yes, God saved me, but I had to…", "Yes, but only because I…", "Yes, but first I…"; none of these things is true, you HAD TO do NOTHING! Understand this simple truth; God says He will not share His glory with another. Period. In any fashion. At any time. And He receives maximum glory in the wonderful work of lavishing mercy upon those who do not deserve it, who have never had even one spark of Godward movement, who have all their lives been opposed to Him and to His perfect and undisputed rule of all creation. It pleases Him to reach out and open the hearts of those who He has chosen before the foundations of eternity, those who are happily going on the road to destruction, and when His grace intersects into our lives we are made alive and become His own children. O beloved, guard your fickle heart against the temptation to rob God of the praise He deserves for His mercy and instead simply confess that He has saved you, He and no other, and give to Him the praise which He is due!!
