Hear it again - if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain... this truth slays the righteousness of man, it puts to death the vain hope that we can somehow keep enough of the law to satisfy the requirements of God's demands, this simple truth kills forever the false idea that any of us can ever be "good people" that we could ever be clean enough on our own to be acceptable to God because of our works… beloved there is nothing in us that can ever commend us to God! There is NO ONE who would ever choose God of their own accord. There is NO ONE who would ever consider God of their own desire. There is NO ONE who would ever even desire forgiveness, for there is NO ONE who believes that they are really all that bad! It is a supernatural work of grace when someone turns to God and asks for mercy. It is a supernatural work of grace that makes God hating rebels into sons, into daughters… it is the simple fact that God has changed our hearts that makes us turn to Him. Anything else is to return to the law, to the effort of making yourself good enough by your works, by your obedience, by your own ability to DO anything. But the good works I worked are nothing but filthy rags, the love for God I bore was only self-serving drivel that demanded a god to meet me on MY terms… I don’t doubt that your righteousness was better than mine, but hear God's Word - IT IS NOT good enough. It cannot ever be good enough, for if righteousness comes through the law, then the death of Christ was not needed, and worse yet, it was a waste. Oh my precious child, cease from seeking your own righteousness, it will only be your undoing. Rather, turn to the Christ who died for the sin of His people, confess your need of Him and cry to God for mercy. You will ALWAYS find mercy in Him.
