Ezekiel 36:33–36 (NKJV): 33 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by. 35 So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ 36 Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the ruined places and planted what was desolate. I, the Lord, have spoken it, and I will do it.”
Pay attention to the language of God here... three times here He tells us that He works all of the wonders He performs so that those around us will see and know that He has done it. So that the nations that are left all around might see... just pause and consider that for a moment, the mighty mercies of the Living, Omnipotent God are evangelistic. He blesses us so that others might see His goodness, turn from their sin, and know Him, the ONLY true God. He gives, He heals, He protects and He pours out His promised, restoring power so that the lost around us will know the true power of the only real God. Those who worship false gods are trapped in their illusions, unable to see that they serve those who can do nothing, who are impotent and empty... it is only the living, Triune God of the Bible who has declared the end from the beginning, and has displayed His own veracity by the completion of every promise He has made in the fullness of His own time, exactly when He foretold, exactly as He foretold. What, then, do we have to fear, to doubt, to fret over? We may not see just how God will fulfill His promises, but we are assured that He WILL. We may not fully comprehend just what He is doing when He chastens us for our sin, and yet promises that He loves us in the midst of all. We may not have a clear picture of just how the goodness of God will be displayed in spite of the darkness of sin, or the sorrow that is poured over this culture... and yet, His goodnes to us becomes the light for the salvation of all He has called... all He has chosen, all He has determined to love... the outworking of God's plan and purposes is mysterious and hidden from us in its intricacies; but He does declare His heart's motive to us often. He is declaring the truth of who He is, He is revealing the fact THAT He is to the nations, and He permits us to be part of that awesome plan. Rejoice in the mercy of your Father, precious child, rejoice and see the revelation of His goodness as He calls the lost around you to Himself.
