Saul had walked in direct disobedience to the command of God. Now, he did have a good excuse ( we ALWAYS have good excuses for sin ) that even sounded religious... "I was doing this (wrong thing) to give to you God". But beloved, the end NEVER justifies the means. Our first priority as children of God, as followers of Jesus Christ is obedience to the God we follow. Period. There are NO exemptions, NO exceptions, NO good excuses for disobedience. Samuel tells Saul the bottom line - to obey God is better than sacrifice... to know His Word, His command, His will and to OBEY IT is more important in the sight of God than any religious activity you can perform, than any act of "worship" you can bring, than any "truth" you can utter... God has told us what He requires of us, and we err when we think we know more than God, and try to change His will to suit our desires. God ultimately sees our rebellion as witchcraft, the worship of Satan. He sees our stubbornness, our willfulness, our determination to have our own way as iniquity (a sick, twisted sin) and idolatry... the worship of that which is false. Precious child, our calling is to obey our God's commands. All of them, all the time, in all our circumstances. Set yourself to do this, and see the blessing of God on your life!
