Often, one of our first reactions when we hear the calling of God is this reply of Saul. He was chosen by God to be the first king of Israel, he was full of many attributes that would commend him to his fellow Israelites... and his immediate reply is "no, you must be mistaken"; he knew that he was the least st this point. Later, however he began to believe that he WAS enough. Saul never really understood the truth. He never really got that God is the all in all of everything, and He is willing and able to fulfill in us what He has called us to become. To fail to see this is to fall into the sin that eventually destroyed Saul; the sin of seeking to do FOR God in our strength. Seeking to do His work but all the while ignoring and neglecting Him and His commands in the process. It all begins with a lack of trust in God. It begins with relying on what we can see with our eyes, touch with our hands, understand with our minds... it all begins with this doubt that says to God, "I think you are wrong" because if He is wrong about who, He must also be wrong about how, and that is the failure and ruin of Saul. Beloved child, trust that God knows WHAT He wants, WHO He wants to do it through, and HOW He wants to accomplish His ends. Step up when He calls and step out into faithful obedience to the King!
