But before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people, or go anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a ration and a gift and released him. vs5
If we honor the Lord Jesus Christ, then He will be with us. He will not dishonor faith, but He’ll lift us up as promised.
Humble yourself, and you will be exalted. Believe His prophets, and you will prosper [2 Chron 20:20]!
First, Christ is a faithful God. He was faithful to die for us, having received us in covenant love. He always loved us and always will, unfailingly, unshakably, unto the death and forever in His resurrection. He was faithful to God His Father, and He’ll be faithful to us now that He’s risen.
For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! [Rom 5:10]
His gospel has CONTINUAL power, where sinners are able to flee to Christ again and again [Numb 35:26-28]! His blood never loses its saving efficacy, and He is faithful to the uttermost!
“But because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save forevermore those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.” [Heb 7:24-25]
We grow tired of confessing our sins - over and over - but He is never weary of receiving us. He will chasten us wisely, but He tells us to come, cast off the bondage, and be enlightened. Be surprised by how much He loves you, but don’t be unbelieving!
Secondly, He is faithful in trials. Jeremiah endured hardship for preaching, but Ebed Melech, the Ethiopian, helped him from the pit [Jer 38]. Then, God helped the Ethiopian too!
“For I will surely rescue you so that you do not fall by the sword. Because you have trusted in Me, you will escape with your life like a spoil of war, declares the LORD.” [Jer 39:18]
He never forsakes us or forgets the work of faith, labor of love, or the patience of hope, but He’ll remember our good works forever, and they shall follow us to heaven [Rev 14:13; Heb 6:10]. Do not fear that He cannot see your suffering and sacrifice! As one man said, “God knows what He’s going to do with what He’s doing.” The present has a glorious end.
Thirdly, be faithful in good works! Persevere unto the end. Don’t draw back or be hardened because someone else is unrepentant, but KEEP ON doing good for God’s glory.
Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. [Gal 6:9]
The soft tongue breaks the bone, and a little patience will bear much fruit. You will testify of God and enjoy Him, You will bring Him glory by perseverance, and He’s worthy of all praise and honor by how we treat others. Love as you’ve been loved, and keep on loving, for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake [John 13:34-35]!
Finally, you and I have a great opportunity to see God’s faithfulness: Look!
