We gain nothing when we refuse to acknowledge our sin; in fact, we lose everything! Jesus stated more than once that He had nothing to offer the righteous... a person who stands on their own righteousness is demanding that God offer them nothing in the way of mercy. What God requires of us is simple, confess our sin and repent of it. Own our brokenness, our rebellion, our willful determination to go our own way, to please our own desire... and then, stop it. Turn away from sin and turn toward God. Cry out to Him for the mercy we cannot live without and set our gaze upon the way He has commanded. This is, of course, impossible... but God gives what He requires, so nothing is impossible with God. He came to save sinners, so rejoice, oh purchase of blood, rejoice that such you are!
