1 Peter 2:11–12 (NKJV): Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. Here is an aspect of our holiness which frequently we overlook, the truth that men everywhere are watching us to see whether we will live as we profess. The stakes are high, beloved, for not only will the lost find in our failure an excuse to reject truth, but they will heap scorn and shame upon the name of our dear King Jesus. Further, the damage we do to our witness also wars against our very souls, it weakens us, it turns us away from that which we are called to pursue... but the converse truth is also there ~
When we walk in holiness, in truth, in obedience, our hearts are warmed to the treasures of heaven, the beauty of the King and power of His love... and also, the heathen are forced to confess and ascribe glory to His name, for they cannot hold the false accusations long in the presence of His righteousness. Let us walk then in obedience, that God may be honored in us, by us, and through us as praises abound even from those who do not love Him.
