The central fact of our existence is clearly evident and full of sorrow... we are all guilty before God. Our fallen nature is the manifest core of all we are, all we think, all we do. Man's greatest danger is the trouble we have with understanding and accepting this fact. We boldly declare that we have no sin, that our deeds should be acceptable in the sight of God, that our judgments are what is right and that God should be pleased to have us give Him our attention... this position, although universal, flies in the face of truth, it is rooted only in our arrogant imagination. What the truth is, is far plainer and much more troubling. The truth is that we are utterly broken, ruined in every way, born dead and without any power to change... if we were to stand before God on our own, we would be destroyed. Only God can heal us and make us whole. God alone is our hope. When faced with His wrath, your only escape is His perfect mercy.
