We are moved rather quickly from the bosom of our Heavenly Father into the various petitions. We pray that our lives may be so directed that we live according to Him. Now we look at the 2nd petition of this model prayer as it follows the first and we MUST pray "Thy Kingdom come!"
We pray for the good of the institute of the church here as it also preaches the Word of that Kingdom to its citizens. The Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven. It is the idea of the Kingdom that has always been challenged and under scrutiny as the devil understands it very well and sets his sights on destroying that Kingdom. It becomes skewed when men confuse the SPIRITUAL Kingdom and the kingdom in this world. Even in the last election those running tried to court the evangelical world with the "social gospel." There are two very separate things. We are citizens of the Kingdom as we live here below. It is a SPIRITUAL realm, belongs to God, is Heavenly, and is one that cannot be fashioned after the church here below though they are part of that very Kingdom. It is established through Christ as those belonging to it have been justified by Him. A spiritual realm and NOT an earthly dominion. (Note the Kingdom is also not the sovereign power of God. God is sovereign thought He establishes a Kingdom to His glory!)
The key concept is the church and speaks to the saints who are part of that church and sanctified daily through the preaching of the gospel. We pray that we may more and more live distinct lives to His glory in a holy walk. (The preaching gathers the church and the Holy Spirit convicts inside the hearts of His people.) The Word of God continues to sanctify us by His word and Spirit. The Kingdom of God is therefore made up of the church institute that are "called out of this world." Therefore we are conceived for the welfare of the church. It is that very fact why the church will meet opposition in the world as it has in the past as God gathers His church as it PROCLAIMS His gospel in the gathering of His saints. How can children be called to citizenship if we do not preach sin and repentance? How can God call out into missions if we do not preach the gospel the good news of salvation? How can God call without His word being strictly and purely preached? We pray to preserve that word and church and hold it very near and dear to us! We need that distinctive preaching as we are SANCTIFIED by it!
This petition prays for the end when that Kingdom comes to full realization (as it is a SURE thing by God Himself.) So we pray may that word live among us. All the gates of hell cannot prevail and we continue to pray for the preaching of the gospel among us, for our sanctification, that we may have a yearning of that final realization of that Kingdom....as we are citizens of a world without end!!!
