What's in a Name? Treasure Verse Devotion
Reputations are attached to names. Personal and family history are attached to names. Personality is attached to names. Let’s face it, a lot comes to mind when we hear a person’s name. Immediately we determine whether or not we enjoy being around this person, whether or not we trust him or her, and on and on. The same holds true for the God of the universe! We should immediately associate a lot when we hear or think of His name! Isaiah 26:8 captures the heart of true believers – “…Your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul.” Our chief desire is to know Him, glorify Him, remember Him and His good and righteous ways.
This verse in Isaiah harkens back to Exodus 3:15 when God spoke to Moses from the burning bush and called him to lead His people out of Egyptian bondage. The Lord revealed His personal name to Moses as “I am who I am,” and then He said, “This is My name forever, and thus I am to be remembered through all generations.”
The Great I Am. The all-present, ever-existing, self-sufficient One; I am who I am. And the immediate association, or reputation, of that name, that which is called to remembrance alongside that name is that the I Am is King over all kings (Pharaoh), God over all gods (the 10 plagues), and Deliverer of His people (the Exodus).
He is our desire, and we remember Him as Lord over all and Savior of His people!! What’s in a name? When it comes to the I Am, everything!!!
