"God's Law" LD 34a & Psalm 119:89-112 The Law of God is very dear to His heart! We are dealing with a description of His glory. It is also through the keeping of the law that God makes us righteous. In that regard it is also a law that allows us to make it a guide for our daily life. That is why we are saddened when it looses its place...especially in the church world. There is a lack of understanding of that law in regards to it being dear to the heart of the child of God and that it is used for his salvation! It is a guide that GOD himself gives us! The Law is confessional!
What is the Law of God? The 10 commandments. A historical document. And the moral law is the only law we must respect today. Civil and ceremonial laws were fulfilled, but the moral law still stands. "I came not to destroy that law, but to establish that law" Romans 7. "The faith establishes the law." It is according to that law which Christ fulfilled that we are saved! We establish it by faith and are empowered to walk in good works as we do that bowing to the law of God in a sanctified life! The format of the law is Old Testament (archaic) but we can translate them into the New Testament as we know it. Often we want to lean toward the principle of love withOUT the negatives of the law. Do we not know that they are admonitions to us in the old man of the flesh?...as we are prone to hate God and the neighbor?! He also gives us this law as a COMPLETE guide in our life with emphasis on the individual commandments.
It should be appreciated. Because Christ fulfilled that law and it speaks to us all regarding our JUSTIFICATION! Christ's life was DEDICATED to THAT LAW and fulfilling that law! It is the heart of that law! "Cursed is everyone that keeps not the law of God." It is also in that same law and justification that the child of God is set at freedom. We are set and stand in liberty of our Lord Jesus Christ in the envelopment of the law! We have an appreciation to serve God in that law. A guide for our sanctified living! It is not archaic, but DEAR to God's heart and therefore our heart as well.
It is also faithful in its guidance. Don't we see the sinfulness of our nature? And aren't we happy that God has fulfilled the law? It warns us of our propensities towards sin. "Preach it to us pastor that we may have a guide in our sanctified and thankful living."
According to that new principal in Christ we set our life to love God with ALL our heart, mind, soul, and strength and also our neighbor. Not at the expense of the law and His commandments, but as HE gives us His law to live by until we are in perfection of holiness with Him and no longer need it. We CHERISH that Law!
