Jehovah and Jesus are One
John 17:5. “…glorify Me, Father, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” Isaiah 42:8. “I am Jehovah, that is My name… I will not give My glory to another.” Q. Would Jehovah ever give His glory to someone else? I mean, who could handle it?
JWA. Well, of course, we all receive some measure of the glory of God, and will receive more one day.
Q. Then I wonder what Isaiah meant?
JWA. It is quite possible He is speaking of His name, which is emphasized in this passage. His name includes all His glory.
Q. No, that will not work. The same passage that talks about that glory we will receive, as you mentioned, also says that Jesus made known His Name to His disciples. (John 17:26) We’re both skirting around an obvious fact I believe.
CA: The obvious fact must be that Jehovah and Jesus are One (I and My Father are One). For Jesus to have the glory of God on Him before the world was, was no great feat, since they shared that glory for all eternity. Jesus alone can handle such glory, for it is His. As to how we will ever share this glory must be approached along the same lines. If the Holy Spirit is upon us now, making us one with Christ, then the greater revelation of Who He is, will also be easily passed on. In that sense, the sense of our unity with Him in the Spirit, He is not giving His glory to “another”, but to Himself.
