What a demand. The 1st commandment is basic and fundamental in the keeping of ALL the commandments. The operative word is TRUST. Trust God ALONE! In the measure that we take it away from God, we touch His Glory that is shown in our complete dependence upon Him. The question is who do you worship? (And how we worship the one, true God is dealt with in the 2nd commandment.) We must FLEE ALL idolatry. We must flees what comes natural to me. To trust in myself, government, etc. All these take away from the sovereign God and are given to someone or something else. It is so easy to embrace the things of idolatry, but we MUST acknowledge GOD! There is a God in Heaven who is almighty, sovereign, and controls ALL things as they are all FROM His hand. The God who reveals Himself in His word (and not someone's concept of who or what God is.) A fool says there is no God!! How sad when Christians even deny the POWER of God in His creation that even affects his own belief in God's Fatherly care!!! God reveals Himself from the beginning! (Matthew 26.) God is God! Is there anything that God does not do?!

Consider who God is and consider who we are. God made us wholly dependant upon Him as an image bearer of God for HIS glory. That tells us who we are....yet man dethrones God in His very own creation even though God causes ALL things in it. In acknowledging Him we know our dependence and we TRUST and HONOR Him! "I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth!"
