Since the month of October is Pastor Appreciation Month, we are using our October blog posts to feature our Logos Community Church pastors. Check out our interview with Pastor Mike and Pastor Ruben, and give them a hug when you see them on Sunday!
How long have you been a pastor at Logos?
PT: By God’s grace, it’s been nine years.
Can you tell us some about the story behind your calling as a pastor?
PT: I was called to be a pastor in 2004, and It blew my mind. I felt that my history of sin and brokenness disqualified me from serving the Lord. However, I came to understand that Jesus only calls broken people to be missionaries to others like them. Selina and I went from making quite a bit of money and arguing over it all of the time to a 66% pay cut, a new baby (Carolina), and having zero arguments about money. The plan of God was way greater than the wants and needs of this world! We started and led a college ministry for several years, worked in family and youth ministry, and planted Logos Community in April of 2008.
If you weren’t a pastor or working in full-time ministry, what would you be doing with your life?
PT: I would probably teach at the undergraduate level. I enjoy leading and discipling men and women in the truth that is Christ.
If you could vacation anywhere for two weeks (with money being no object), where would you go?
PT: Sounds weird, but I would return to Asheville, North Carolina in the fall. I'm from Western North Carolina, but my children have never been there. It's one of the most beautiful places in this country, and in the fall it is quite spectacular.
Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
PT: I love Moses! The dude lived 80 years of his life in the desert. He led well, was humble, and yet proved he was human by making some big mistakes, and after it all, God called him home.
If you planted a church, what would the name be?
PT: I really like the name Logos Community :) Other than that name, I would choose something simple that identifies the church with its local surroundings, or culture.
