Since the month of October is Pastor Appreciation Month, we are using our October blog posts to feature our Logos Community Church pastors. Check out our interview with Pastor Mike and Pastor Ruben, and give them a hug when you see them on Sunday!
How long have you been a pastor at Logos?
PM: I have been a pastor at Logos for a little over 4 years and feel I am so blessed to be called to serve along side my Logos brothers and to lead Edinburg.
PR: I have been a pastor at Logos for four and a half years.
Can you tell us some about the story behind your calling as a pastor?
PM: God had apparently been calling me for several years, at several different times, and in my selfishness, I said no. When He finally brought me to the end of my self, I saw how badly I needed Him as my Lord and Savior and submitted to Him, and then accepted His call. For me His call was a long, life-changing process. I have never been the same since!
PR: Something was happening in my heart and I believed that I was supposed to serve the Lord in a greater capacity. I wasn't sure if it was as a pastor but I knew it was in a larger role. I met with the pastors and they asked me the question: is this something you feel or are you called? They then told me to pray about it. I prayed and it was confirmed! I was called! I became the children's pastor using my years of experience in youth ministry, and in education. To answer the call, but still be able to pay the bills, I left administration, went back to the classroom as a teacher and served as pastor part time. I served for four years at Logos Community's McAllen Campus. Recently we moved to La Feria and are now members of the Harlingen Campus and are waiting and praying to see how God will call me to serve there.
If you weren’t a pastor or working in full-time ministry, what would you be doing with your life?
PM: If I weren’t married, I would have most likely ended up in the Israeli Army as a medic; I have a deep love for the people of Israel and would have given my life to share the gospel with the Jewish soldiers while supporting their cause. As far as with my family (which I am so grateful for), I would have been a full-time Christian counselor and writer.
PR: I have a full time job as an educational coordinator and consultant. I would still be doing this and if not a pastor, still serving the Lord and the people He loves.
If you could vacation anywhere for two weeks (with money being no object), where would you go?
PM: I have a deep, deep desire to spend a long time exploring Alaska.
PR: Other than the Holy Land of course, I have always wanted to go to Great Britain, but Ireland specifically.
Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
PM: I think I can identify really well with Joshua. He was a warrior and a man who loved God for his entire life. I look at him and think about how hard it must have been to follow in Moses' shoes. I see in scripture how God built courage in this man to finish the mission. I truly admire that and am blown away by his relationship with God.
PR: My favorite Bible character is David because he was fallible like the rest of us but kept on coming back to God. The Bible says he was a man after God's own heart. I relate to David and want to be that kind of man.
If you planted a church, what would the name be?
PM: I did plant a church! It's called Logos Community Edinburg!
